Colorful Fall Home Decor
/It’s been awhile since I blogged about my seasonal decorating. Possibly because I overthink it and keep changing things until it’s time for the next season…
This year I decorated a few different areas, each with different color schemes. I have taught a few sweater pumpkin classes over the years and my kids made some too! We have a very mismatched collection so I picked some pumpkins for each area and made the rest of the decor match.
The cupboard in my dining room has brown, yellow, and blue. The faux sunflowers are in a milk bottle filled with glass bowl fillers and fairy lights (although I must admit that a chunk of glass flew out of the bottom when I was filling it so the bottle will be tossed out now. Boo.) I made the wine bottle basket for a class sample and tucked a bucket with our pens, pencils, scissors, etc. inside. The duck cookie jar was a recent yard sale find and matches the basket. I am using it as our catchall for the random crap people put on top of the cupboard. The rum bottle is a fun shape and I put some brown faux florals inside. The lantern has a faux pumpkin that I painted with white baking soda paint and copper wire fairy lights. Finally, the brown sweater pumpkin ties it all together.
I have an antique dresser in my living room under the TV and its a really great storage piece! For this color scheme, I started out with the soft mint sweater pumpkin and liked how it coordinated with the coral and pale green pumpkins too. I added a blue Ball jar with fairy lights and matching faux florals, then stacked a few hardcover books in coordinating colors.
My new fireplace mantle is my favorite spot to decorate! I started out with a fuzzy pink sweater pumpkin and realized it matched the Halloween thrift store makeover painting I did last year with my friend, Jaymie. I picked up a pink striped pitcher at a thrift store recently so I tucked some purple, real-feel faux florals inside to match the colors in the painting. My barn wood star has been a standard piece throughout all of the seasons because it looks great with everything. On each end I added a lantern with battery candles. Actually, the first thing I added to the room was a bushel basket of dried hydrangeas I trimmed. That pulls in some of the pink hues. The hearth has a baking soda paint pumpkin on one side and a lantern with some hydrangeas and a battery pillar candle.
A little spot in the corner with a baking soda paint pumpkin and a plant I bought to use for homecoming corsages…
The last spot I decorated was the laundry room shelves. Some traditional fall color pumpkins that the kids made remained. I just added some fall florals, battery candles, and a jar full of faux mini pumpkins to the existing decor and storage. By this point, I just wanted to get the totes back into storage.
I am pleased with the general outcome and I love how things feel cohesive, yet highlight a variety of color combinations.
