Fall Fox Birthday Party
/Birthday celebrations are completely hit or miss in our house, dependent upon many different factors. Somehow, my youngest two daughters insisted that #10 is a big deal warranting a big party!
After many months of deliberation, my youngest decided on a “fox fall woodland” theme. It turned out really cute! Warning: This is going to be a pretty long post packed full of DIY party stuff. (Note: This is last year’s party. It’s been in my drafts for over a year!)
BOOK PAGE LEAVES
Decorating is a little tricky because our sunroom isn’t finished yet (and it wasn’t even fall yet! Ha!), but we got creative to make it work. Bouquets of “foxtails” were scattered around the room. I hung some fall-colored ombre curtains over the unfinished, stud walls. My daughter and I made paper leaves to string from the windows in an ombre pattern as well.
I cut stacks of leaf shapes from an old dictionary. Next, I thinned some paint with water and dipped the leaves into the mixture, one at a time. We used several different colors from burgundy to gold and even dipped some of the leaves in two different hues. I spread a plastic tablecloth out to dry them on. Peeling them off is pretty satisfying and they have such a neat texture when they dry. Finally, I hot glued each leaf to fishing line in random spacings and hung them above the windows with a thumbtack.
FLORAL FOX HEADBANDS
My daughter was very insistent on making crafts at her party. We prepped some felt fox ear headbands for the party guests. An assortments of florals and greens were provided so that they could be decorated as guests arrived. We just used hot glue to attach the flowers and I loved the different styles the girls created!
You can get the fox ear headband pattern HERE.
Of course, creating cute fox headbands would warrant photos, so I set up a forest them backdrop with some artificial trees, crates, burlap, lanterns, and antlers.
FOOD
For the food we had a campfire pizza bar. I made lots of homemade pizza crusts and then everyone got to create their own pizza to cook over the fire. Toppings included homemade pizza sauce, alfredo sauce, barbecue sauce, chicken, bacon, ham, pepperoni, pineapple, and mozzarella.
Our dessert table included swiss roll logs, chocolate pirouette cookie “sticks,” bear shaped cookies, and “acorns” made of mini vanilla wafers, Hershey kisses, and chocolate chips. The brownie cupcakes were a complete accident but they were still delicious.
FOX FAIRY LIGHT JARS
We also had another craft project after they ate. I gathered some empty jars and also bought a few at Dollar Tree. I ordered fox figurines and fairy lights from Amazon. Then, I cut some cardboard circles and gathered an assortment of small greens, moss, stones, bottle brush trees, etc. The kids got to create their miniature fox scene on the cardboard -everything was just hot glued into place. It was carefully placed into the jar and then fairy lights were taped to the inside of the jar lid using electrical tape.
Overall the party was a success and they had a lot of fun!
