AGF Road to Round Top
/I just love getting to sew with Art Gallery Fabrics’ new collections! This time I got to work with Road to Round Top. This collection includes a variety of pretty florals and vintage-inspired prints in pink, creams, warm blues, and rustic reds.
Since the fabric has an antique vibe, we made the most of our photo shoot at the Malta schoolhouse which the girls’ great-great-grandparents attended.
Now for the sewing details…
My daughter got a Blank Canvas Cardigan and a Reef dress. Lakeisha sewed the Reef top as a dress for Project Under the Sea so I followed her inspiration.
This is the fourth time I have used the Reef pattern, but it was the first time I did the double ruffle! For the waist I used 3/8” elastic so that it would support the weight of the skirt. I also enclosed the waist elastic using the same method as my teen peasant dresses.
I lengthened the top pattern for the first tier and then doubled the width for each tier below. The fabrics used are Summer Blush, Simply Stated, and Make a Wish.
For my niece, I wanted to sew a dress with sleeves long enough for her arms! She is so thin and tall it is hard to get a good fit for her. I ended up hacking the Lagoon dress to make it with woven fabric - Delicate Blossoms. I deepened the arm scythe and added width to the back and cut it in two pieces to add buttons. The sleeve cuffs are made of cotton spandex knit. I also added a tiered skirt with lace trim at the hem, but will be adding another tier because I underestimated the length of her legs!
I think my favorite part of this outfit is the half apron! I made sawtooth star quilt squares to create pockets and added lace trim along the edges. The ties are made with Roadside Fields fabric.
I just love how these outfits look together! They definitely had fun modeling them and getting a little glimpse of family history.
