Project Wild Side Fabric Collection

Back in 2019 I contributed to Project Run and Play’s first fabric collection- Project Nature Adventure. It was not a smashing success (a bit of a flop, really) but I definitely learned from the experience and a lot has changed since that time. Now, Raspberry Creek Fabrics has Designer Studios and anyone can choose from the uploaded designs to print on any available fabric base. I have created several different fabric collections in the past few years and when I came across the original files I designed for Project Nature Adventure, I decided it was time to redeem the original collection.

My hand sketched floral designs are the same, but I was able to add a few new color options.

I also redid some of the original designs and added coordinating fabrics in plaid and linen look.

Oh, and of course I had to create some size tags like we do with every collection! They are just so great to have on hand when sewing kids clothes and I have found other creative ways to use them as well.

Then, we got some of our past PRP designers on board to sew with the newly released fabrics! They have been featured on social media the past few weeks and we even put together a little lookbook/catalog. See that HERE!

Of course, I had to sew some of this new fabric too! I created a sets for a few of my sister’s adorable children. They are so tiny that I was able to get quite a few pieces from the two yards that I ordered with some left over! I got everything printed on french terry. (The tags are on swim knit which makes them extra smooth and crisp.)

I made sets for the youngest boys in Explore Outdoors and Orange Linen Look. I chose the Adventurer Raglan sweatshirt (the name was fitting!) although I did skip the bottom band. I didn’t want them exactly the same so I cute the sleeves and body pieces from opposite fabrics. The orange linen look was a little too plain for my taste so I made appliques from the Explore Outdoors elements on the front and back (plus a label made from the size tags).

Then I sewed some reversible Bookish Beanies because I was determined to use up all of the scraps (some Blue Plaid in here too that you will see later in this post!) This led to another applique and another size tag turned label.

The boys were excited to go to “the forest” for photos even though it is really just a patch of trees at the edge of a nearby field. We timed it just as the sun was setting and got that amazing golden hour lighting against the dark trees.

But of course their little sister is not to be left out!

For my niece, I sewed a Lavender Dress using some of the first fabric that I had printed six years ago on cotton poplin. I wanted to add a neckline ruffle and found the bottom of a dress I had hemmed for her sister on my sewing table that is desperately in need of a thorough cleaning! I felt that it needed more pink throughout so I added a ruffle along the hem, a sash, and a bow.

We took her photos first and while we were waiting for her brothers to get ready I helped her to look for the hidden bees, ladybugs, ants, etc.

Then, because I had also ordered the Blue Plaid fabric I sewed a Chromium Cropped Hoodie to layer over the top of the dress. I love how the pink neckline ruffle just barely peeks out from underneath the neckband. It was finished off with the perfect Shine Bright label on the waistband, too.

She really wanted in on her brothers’ photoshoot too!

Overall, I am really happy with how everything turned out and with all that we were able to create for this re-release.
