Project Watercolor Beach
/Project Run and Play lookbooks are one of my very favorite things in the sewing community! I was really excited about the new Project Watercolor Beach Capsule Wardrobe Pattern Collection, but we were landlocked and locked down. Fortunately, we just happened to paint a perfectly coordinating beach mural wall in one of the kids rooms a few months ago. I sewed up a bunch of clothes and we pretended that it was the beach for a photo shoot.
There are so many great patterns (and digital designs!) in this collection. I was still busy finishing up the school year, so I only chose a few to sew. My youngest daughter is the most cooperative, so she got several outfits.
First up is the Golden Dress pattern. It is such a crisp, clean pattern with an elastic waist and optional ties. I think it would also make a nice alternative to pillowcase or peasant dresses for charity sewing projects since it requires no buttons or zippers and has a versatile fit. I used a seashell linen from Joann Fabrics.
Next up is the Coral Wrap Dress, Top, and Skirt Pattern. I went all out with a maxi length dress and she LOVES it! I chose the narrow waistband, although I think a wide waistband would have looked nice on this, too. My daughter really wanted the bell sleeves (ever since I made her Indigo dress she is all about loose, fluttery sleeves!) I happened to have this Doodles cotton knit fabric with silver foil mermaids that I bought at Joann a few years ago and it seemed perfect fot this theme!
Her third outfit is a Chromium Cropped Hoodie and Bodhi Board Skirt. I actually opted for the full length version of the hoodie, but a crop probably would have showed off the skirt a little better. I used a french terry from Cali Fabrics and a scrap of mermaid Doodles knit for the hood lining. For the board skirt, I used some scale print quilting cotton from my stash and added a fun, mermaid button to the pocket.
My older girls are all about crop tops right now, so they really wanted their own Chromium Cropped Hoodies. I made one in a blue, tie dye, rayon french terry from Cali Fabrics with pink cotton lycra lining in the hood. The other was made with a soft, coral ponte that I bought a few years ago from Sew So English Fabrics and I used an old, mint t shirt for the hood lining. She also wanted kitty ears on hers to make it like her other fox hoodie.
These clothes are all so cute and comfortable that I am sure they will get lots of wear even if we are just spending a lot of time hanging out at home!
The new lookbook is truly amazing and I absolutely LOVE what the Amazing Audrey has done with my photos in the lookbook spreads! Head over to Project Run and Play to see all of the other fabulous creations we have been whipping up with these new patterns!
