Vintage Inspired Halloween Photo Booth
/Last year I helped with some last minute prep for a Halloween party at Sunbury Station. We threw together a few simple games and a vintage-inspired photo booth backdrop. It turned out so well that I decided to document it on the blog.
Today, I am going to focus on the photo backdrop. All I bought for this was a few pieces of posterboard from Dollar Tree.
I had a plain white sheet so I did an ombre dye to look like a sunset using Rit Dye I had on hand: Purple, Coral, Sunshine Orange, and Golden Yellow.
Then, I used my Cricut to cut out bat shapes in a few sizes from a piece of black posterboard. I simply attached them to the sheet from the back side using safety pins and bent the wings to make them pop out for some dimension. Deciding how to arrange them was the hardest part so I just made them appear to be flying diagonally upwards.
I already had the Happy Halloween garland from a 90% off clearance at Walmart from the year before so I draped that across the top.
I wanted to keep it in line with the aesthetic of the location so I wanted vintage inspired props. I did a Google search and found a few vintage Halloween graphics that I copied onto posterboard using paint pens and a black marker.
I also used the free svg files from Project Run and Play (code in the newsletter!) to create some signs and eyes. I cut the pieces from black posterboard and glued them onto white posterboard with a regular glue stick. For the signs I drew shapes and outlined them with a black marker. For the eyes, I taped skewers to one side for an easier prop effect.
It turned out really cute and definitely matched the aesthetic of the event. I saved all of the pieces so it can be reused in the future, too.
Here is a video showing the process:
