Pantone Party 2026

Every year Project Run and Play hosts a Pantone Party based on the official Pantone Color of the Year. Last year was Mocha Mousse… a little drab but perfect for hiding stains and dirt, I suppose. This year they chose Cloud Dancer. It’s basically white, which is technically the absence of color. Plus it is really impractical for kids clothing. So we came up with our own color palette instead and used Cloud Dancer in the background. The featured colors are from the Pantone New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026 trends.

I received fabrics from Knitfabric.com to create some new tops for my daughter. We worked together to plan them out, changed our minds on a few things anyway, and ended up with some really great looks.

This Alex Sweatshirt was sewn with organic cotton sweatshirt fleece and matching rib knit. Their “petrol” colors match “Alexandrite” from the color palette perfectly! My daughter wanted the simplest version of the sweatshirt, but it has some color blocking options as well.

She fell in love with this pretty ivory rib knit with little pink bows and wanted a top made with that. I talked her into a pink urban rib fabric to layer with it because I wanted more “Tea Rose” pink and less “Cloud Dancer.”

We were shopping at Old Navy a few weeks ago and she wanted a top with a wide, somewhat squared neckline, but they didn’t have her size. I inspected the construction and saw it was made with two layers of fabric on the bodice. That is similar to the Indigo top construction so I just redrew the neckline on that pattern.

The urban rib cardigan layered over it is made with Indigo as well- just one layer. I added bands to the center and hem, then sewed a binding around the neckline, extending out past the ends to create the ties. Oh, and of course she need a headband to match!

I used a scrap of Art Gallery Fabrics knit solid in Sienna Brick (it matches Muskmelon from our color palette!) to sew a test run of the squared neckline top. I used the Lagoon pattern for this one and sewed the invisible binding neckline. I didn’t think that would work as well with the drapey rib knit because it’s hard to keep the weight of the fabric from drooping outwards. I also attempted to use the sleeves from the Sleep Tight Tee, but they were still not as fitted as she wanted so I had to take them in a bit more.

So, I ended up creating four new pieces for Pantone Party this year and my daughter loves her new shirts!

We released the lookbook for this event and it turned out AMAZING! It’s a very different style than anything we have created before and I just LOVE it! Make sure you check it out!
