Art Gallery Fabrics Highlands Flannel

Art Gallery Fabrics just came out with a new fabric substrate: Highlands Flannel. It is so soft and plush so it will make the warmest, coziest projects!

I got to sew up a Lavender Dress for my niece and I made one simple change to the pattern- the buttons are on the front instead of the back! I extended the center of the front bodice by 1 1/4” and cut two mirrored of the main and lining. Then, I removed that same amount from the center back bodice and cut those pieces on the fold. I sewed everything in the same manner as the original instructions, just swapping out the back vs. front to create the buttonholes.

I was very picky about matching up the plaid designs on the dress AND the matching (Rain)Bow. That was worth the effort for a crisp final result. Of course, it needed a label and I went with a round Comfy & Cozy faux leather label because it broke up the plaid lines a bit. The skirt also has an Auntie made side seam tag but I forgot to get a photo.

Overall this was a pretty simple change to an already great pattern and this comfortable dress will keep her nice and warm all winter!
