Beach Bedroom

Usually, a trip to the beach is very relaxing! No wonder it is such a popular bedroom decorating theme!

When we turned the nursery into a kids’ bedroom my neatest child was given the privilege of having her own room. It required a full renovation and relocated doorway which was quite an undertaking, but we knew that she would take good care of the space. She chose a beach theme and we had plenty of time to work on décor projects because it was the spring of 2020.

She has since matured, so before she began creating a new “aesthetic” I made sure to finally take photos for the blog because it really was a cute space!

First, we worked together to paint a pastel, beach sunset (or sunrise) mural on the new wall. The colors that we created set the color scheme for the rest of the room.

Later, I helped her build a wooden stand for the hermit crab aquarium and a friend gave us a cute rope swing that fit perfectly in the corner.

My daughter is a talented photographer so we used a lot of pictures in the decorating. On the wall above her bed we attached a Dollar Tree net using clear command hooks. Mini clothespins holding vacation photos and seashells were hooked to the net.

It took awhile to find the right color of bedding to match the room colors (quilt from Target and throw from Kohls) and I also made some pillows using fabric remnants.

Pressed flower frames from the Target Dollar Spot were filled with graphics from a cardstock paper pack and hung vertically to fill a narrow, awkward space in the corner.

I made the curtains out of dropcloths and we used white rope in sailor’s knots to tie themback.

My daughter also loves plants so those are all her work. They mixed in really well with smaller beach themed accents, mostly gifted from friends.

She needed a desk area but since it is a small room we had to get creative. I cut apart a larger desk with drawers on each side and turned it into two, smaller desks. The sides of the drawers were painted to match the color scheme and the top was stained to match the flooring.

The collage area underwent a few iterations and included a painting that she did of her pet beta fish. The bulletin board frame was painted white and the cork was painted lilac.

The dresser was painted white and the hardware was spray painted with galvanized aluminum. She made a string of seashells to hang above the mirror. The turtle was a project that we made together. It was cut from foam board and we painted it with a blend of coral and lilac acrylic paint. I hot glued rope all the way around the sides.

As hard as this was to beat, I think her newly decorated space is turning out even better! We have a lot of lofty goals for this summer so hopefully I will be able to share that soon!
