Back to School Capsule Wardrobe

For a few years now I have wanted to create a mini capsule wardrobe for my youngest daughter. When the opportunity to join the Project Run and Play Back to School tour came up I decided this was my chance! I picked out my favorite print in Raspberry Creek Fabrics’ back to school line and found a few coordinating solids. Then, I chose some patterns from the Project Run and Play shop that I thought would work well together. It was hard to narrow it down because they have such a big selection!

I really like adding my own details and embellishments to solid fabrics. Since the Botany print I chose featured flowers I used my Wild and Free digital file to create hand embroidery on the Novella Pinafore bib pocket. I also have been wanting to try the Story pattern and this combination looked adorable in their look book for the Project Lounge Library pattern collection. The french terry is soft and stable enough to keep the shape of the sleeves well and I loved the chambray for contrasting topstitching!

I also made Frances leggings in super soft double brushed poly- my girls love how soft this is and want to wear it all the time! I made them a little long because I think she is on a growth spurt again, even though I keep telling her to stop growing up!

A floral stretch lace made a lovely accent on the hem of the Becky skirt. This was another fast addition to the capsule wardrobe. The cotton lycra has a good weight and stability to it so it gives the skirt a nice shape.

For a second top, I made an Indigo peplum top- my daughter absolutely loved the sleeves on the nightgown that I made her and I knew that this would get a lot of wear! I just love how the sleeves and V back look with the Novella! It is such a pretty fall color in this cotton lycra too.

Pairing it with simpler pieces like the Frances leggings and Becky skirt - even in solids- just make the design features stand out more.

My daughter tends to stress out about matching her clothes and she is the only one of my daughters in elementary school now so she won’t have big sisters acting as fashion police. Hopefully the coordinating pieces will help to make this transition a little easier.

Here is where you can get the patterns and fabric:

Since I was using the wildflower digital file, I remembered about the coloring pages I had designed for Project Nature Adventure a few years ago. We never released them, so I thought that this would be a good time! You can get the free download HERE.
