Wood Egg Makeover
/Last year I found some Easter decor marked down to 70% off at Target. I grabbed the rest of these wooden eggs even though they were not really my cup of tea. I thought that maybe I could repaint them.
Originally, I thought about a floral design or something fancy, but I was in the mood for something simpler when I got them out of storage this year.
I sanded each one with 120 grit sandpaper. I had to do this by hand because the belt sander was too aggressive. Then I sprayed them with flat white paint just to prime them a bit.
I wanted some texture so I mixed a little baking soda with acrylic craft paint and brushed it on with a chip brush. I did two coats for better coverage. It was about 1 Tbsp of baking soda in 2 Tbsp of paint.
The end result is much more neutral. I couldn’t decide on a color so I ended up making them pastel blue, green, and pink. I think they fit in with the rest of my decor a lot better now.
l also made some wood risers to display them, which I will blog about later. I twisted some spanish moss into ropes and wrapped around each one to create a “nest.”
Here is the little video I made showing the process.
Last fall I got a vintage dresser at a thrift store and gave it a little makeover. It is in my living room and makes a nice place to decorate (if I didn’t decorate it would become more of a catchall place). Besides the eggs, I put some of my painted plastic eggs in a vintage fruit jar with spanish moss and fairy lights.
I had some real feel tulips from Pinecone and Honey and Target that I stuck in a milk bottle. (I was hoping that they will be less prone to cat attacks since they don’t usually bother with this dresser too much.) I also had an egg basket that I made many years ago so I tucked an old Boyd bunny in there with some more painted plastic eggs. It needed some white to balance and brighten so I used my paper slicer to shred a few of my 8yo’s completed school papers for Easter grass.
I am really happy with how everything turned out! I think the only thing I would have done differently was to paint the green egg yellow instead. I did have some extra risers and eggs which are available to buy at Pinecone and Honey.
If you want to pin this for later…
