Sofiona Show Offs - Lion Tamer
/Sofiona Show-Offs had a circus theme this month. I haven’t been to the circus since 1st grade (?) but we DID have a “Circus Day” on one of our “Forced Family Fun Fridays” during Covid lockdown. I had made a tutu for the dog, but it was pretty tight so today we used it as a lion mane!
I didn’t have the nerve to make anything too bold, but we did come up with this ringmaster-inspired look! I sewed a crushed velvet Tide peplum top, cropped 3/4 sleeve Tundra sweater, and Tamarack shorts.
For the Tide, I created a little bit of a high low hem by trimming a little off of the front of the peplum. I wanted to give it a red coat tail effect because I think that is a classic circus look. The fabric was a remnant from Joann.
The Tamarack shorts have a high waist which is what this daughter needs for a good fit. I made them with a black Ponte that I got from Joann fabrics a few years ago. I will probably whip up a few more of these for summer play.
Finally, I wanted to create a Tundra to layer on top. I actually had a different one made but wasn’t happy with the fabric choice so I started over. I grabbed a sparkly gold sweater from my thrifted upcycle stash and used that instead. I wanted to make the fit more slim so I took some width out of the front and back pieces as shown.
We actually had an outfit for one of the cats, but they were not very cooperative. Haha! This dog will endure anything to play fetch so it worked out!
