Tangled Day

Nearly every morning during quarantine, my daughters listened to a Disney music playlist while working on (or refusing to work on) their “distance learning” assignments. I was really tired of the daily struggle to get them to do their schoolwork, so I resorted to bribery. If they all did their work without giving me a hard time, we would subscribe to Disney +. To further motivate them, I thought I would do a Disney movie theme for Forced Family Fun Friday, and Tangled truly felt like the most relatable movie at the time.

The party planning committee had a hard time coming up with ideas, especially given that it was on a week between grocery shopping trips. We had to make do with what we had at home.

For breakfast we tried to build Rapunzel’s tower using donuts. We saw it on Pinterest, but this was pretty much a Pinterest fail. I made fresh donuts from scratch and they were so soft that they just smooshed with the weight of the stack, then fell over. To compensate for this lackluster presentation, I mixed up a batch of purple icing and put tiny bits of sprinkles in a deviled egg tray. It instantly transformed a falling pile of donuts into a delicious decorating activity.

We made Pascal party blowers using green foam sheets, paper straws, googly eyes, and wrapping paper. For decor, the party planning committee made paper lanterns from purple and yellow paper and placed them over battery tea lights. We played “Pin the Frying Pan on Flynn Rider” (I can’t find where I got it but I had to draw his nose on!) and my 14yo created beautiful cupcakes.

Tangled Party Ideas

I had some flat canvases on hand so we tried a canvas painting class. Some of us enjoyed it. Others did not. I also don’t know what to do with this many Tangled paintings.

Of course, we also watched Tangled, but not until a few days later because everyone was fighting.

Oh, and we never got Disney +. The end.
