Sofiona Designs Miss Nickel Pants

I sewed something very out of my comfort zone, and yet, it felt very familiar at the same time.

Sofiona Designs just released a new women’s cargo pants sewing pattern and I helped test it out. Sewing a loose fit top for myself is one thing. Sewing a perfectly fitting pair of woven pants with lots of cute details and top stitching… I admit that I was intimidated! I had to learn a lot about fit adjustments and about my own body. (I am probably going to be throwing around the term “athletic thigh” a bit too often!) There was lots of practice and adjustments, trial and error. And yet, that is exactly how I used to draft Easter dresses for my daughters every year. It’s such a great way to learn new ways to shape fabric to a specific body.

First, let’s look at all of the details and pretty topstitching because I am awfully proud of that!

POCKETS!!!

For the linings and pocket bags I used fabric that I designed almost 6 years ago and did some fussy cutting to get cute flowers centered on the flaps. These insides are just so clean and professional looking! LOVE!!!

A little more about the pockets…

There is also an extra add-on package with extra pocket versions. I did rounded pockets and flaps with pintucks on the medium cargo pockets. I was feeling like keeping them even, but there are three sizes to choose from with different placements.

Please also note the perfectly sized hammer loop!

Oh, and another thing… the fabric is a stretch twill from Cali Fabrics- it worked great but I DID have to make extra adjustments to account for the higher stretch percentage in the fabric.

I forgot to ask for some that included my head and shoulders. Even though I did my hair and makeup. Oops. Just imagine I am smiling and my hair is perfect, OK?

The label on the back seemed like a fitting choice. Most people aren’t going to fit a sewing pattern PERFECTLY without some adjustments. I feel like I learned a great deal in this process and can’t wait to make more Nickel pants for my daughters too!
