Emerald City Lagoon Dress
/My daughter needed a fancy emerald green dress for the Oz scene of her school’s production of The Wizard of Oz and I knew Project Run and Play Formal Fun was coming up, so I did a 2 for 1 sewing project!
After much deliberation, I finally found the perfect fabrics from Cali Fabrics! The kelly green stretch lamé reflected the stage lights so well and the drape made for a beautiful, twirling skirt in their dance numbers. The chiffon is a nice weight and worked so well! After a few performances I had to do repairs and make the skirt overlay a removable feature because of the lifts in the choreography pulling on the waist seam, but that is not the fabric’s fault. I also made matching (Rain)bows using both fabrics to give her some accessorizing options.
She had a lot of say in the dress features! She was adamant about chiffon puff sleeves so I chose the Lagoon pattern. She also really wanted an overlay so I added a split overlay that blended better with the lamé top. Of course, she loves a good twirl so she wanted the Lagoon fishtail, high low circle skirt option. The neck binding is widened because I was covering seamripped stitching holes (#keepitreal). Finally, the waistband was narrowed and 3/4” elastic was inserted to help hold the weight of the heavy skirt.
I really love how the dress turned out! Thank you to Cali Fabrics for the lovely materials!
