Sofiona Fall Fairytales
/The Sofiona Show-Offs team has revived and we came up with a really fun theme- Fall Fairytales! The general idea was for wearable clothing rather than costumes with a dark aesthetic.
I brainstormed with my niece and we decided to go the villain route with Maleficent.
I modified the Caribou top pattern by omitting the sleeve cuff and elastic waistband. I knew that she was shorter than the size range, so I didn’t lengthen the sleeve. It definitely gave the flowy, medieval effect we wanted. The fabric is a crushed velvet from Boho Fabrics.
With the open, loose sleeves I decided to add a pair of Permafrost Faux Sleeves. I used a super soft, thrifted sweater with athletic knit cuffs to make sure they don’t slip. I chose green because it reminded me of the green fire in the original Disney Sleeping Beauty.
The animated Maleficent’s cloak is trimmed in purple so I wanted just a little bit of purple accent. So I made Tamarack Tights using brushed athletic knit with a purple power mesh insert- again, from Boho Fabrics.
I don’t expect her to wear this outfit all together but I knew the tights would be good for soccer practice and she loves a soft top. Our photo shoots may be impractical, but the garments are not. Ha! We did have a lot of fun with this one. Tthe leaves finally started to change and we got a break in the rain so it was serendipitous!
Here is a little video showing how I made the Permafrost Faux Sleeves. (It is a free pattern in the Sofiona Designs shop!)
My niece and I had fun driving around looking for fall foliage on back roads to take these photos. We made some silly memories and I think they turned out absolutely stunning!
