Sofiona Textured Outfit
/For the Sofiona Show-Offs this month we are focusing on using different textures. I got a women’s 3X plus size jacket at a thrift store for 25 cents and was inspired! Now, I do have a particular aversion to animal print, but this was a good way to overcome it. It felt more daring and edgy, so that is the look I created!
I don’t know what the jacket fabric is - jacquard maybe??? - but it is thick, poly-rayon-spandex with some horizontal stretch. I wanted to make a Bedrock skirt, but as I was cutting it out, I decided to try leaving the buttons on the front. I cut both pieces lining up with the fly and cut both front waistbands on the long edge. This made the skirt a little big on the waist even though I was trying to size down with the stretchy fabric. She is just wearing a belt for now and it will fit her longer, but if I were to do this again I would have cut it differently. I also added extra buttons (I was one short so the top one is different) and the buttonholes were a pain because I forgot to interface.
I made the pockets and waistband lining and belt loops with a crushed velvet remnant that I found in my stash. I think that may be my favorite part!
Then I needed a top to match. After much deliberation, I went for my classic sleeveless Lynx hack! I found a dress given to us by a friend made of a lovely, soft rayon fabric that just felt sleek. I slimmed the sides a bit to make it more fitted. and lengthened the front ruffle to 4” using more of the crushed velvet.
Finally, I whipped up some Permafrost faux sleeves with the rest of the crushed velvet to finish the look. It is definitely more “edgy” than my usual style but I absolutely love how it turned out!!! Combat boots, a feather boa, a fauxhawk hairstyle, and red lipstick topped off the ensemble!
