I haven’t really sewn baby gifts in a long time. If I have made something, it has been rag edge flannel blankets or crocheted hats. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how things would be received and usually just went in with a group gift.

A friend of mine just had her first baby, a girl, and I felt like she would appreciate handmade gifts (although I got diapers and wipes too!) I really had fun sewing some special things and trying out some new patterns, although I had ideas for much more!

So, here’s a look at what I sewed with all the details if you might be looking for some inspo as well…

First, a little something special for the nursery. We were developing a new pattern for Project Run and Play so I needed to create something for the tutorial photos. I matched the fabrics to the nursery wallpaper and then went a little overboard with hand embroidery on the pennant triangle between the first and middle names. I actually saved a photo from facebook of the mother’s special sheep and copied him with a ridiculous amount of french knots. Beside the sheep is a special duck and some flowers.

That took forever so I didn’t get to sew as many outfits as I would have liked, but I was happy with those I was able to finish.

This outfit is my favorite! The mother is a shepherdess so a little sheep something was needed! I used the Chromium Cropped Hoodie and made sheep ears by lengthening the cat ears and adding a fold at the top. Since local fabric options are limited I used a sherpa hoodie from my upcycle pile. I didn’t notice the drawstring at the bottom until after it was finished so I just put a matching scrap of urban rib knit (also used on the ears) through the buttonholes and tied a bow.

The top is scrap fabric left from THIS outfit and I used the free Ringer Tee pattern from Brindille & Twig. pants are the Waratah Wide Leg pants and I also upcycled them from a pair of pink corduroy pants. The back pocket has a Shine Bright label, of course! The size tag is from Project Run and Play’s RCF Designer Studio.

I found a free pattern from Vintage Little Lady and wanted to give it a try since I have never tried their sewing patterns. The cute farm fabric was a little busy so I used a solid pink for the top. Of course I added another Shine Bright label and used cute duck buttons on the back!

Project Run and Play added a bunch of new patterns for Back to School and I wanted to give the Lillian Top & Dress a try. I used two fat quarters to make this bright floral top. Did I add another Shine Bright label? Of course! I also wanted some leggings to match so I used the Frances leggings from the PRP shop since it had baby sizes.

I still have some fabric waiting to be sewn up but I have been overthinking things. I have almost cleaned up my disastrous sewing room so maybe I will sew more after canning season is over.
