WIP Wednesday ~ Finishing

I am really pushing to finish up projects that I have already started. With each one I complete, a little bit of the guilt I put on myself lifts. I am over halfway done with the spring quiet book.

Funny story with that last one... my 4yo wanted me to use red beads for the seeds, but I switched them out for white. She asked me today what happened to the red seeds and I told her I wanted to use white. She asked,"Why?" and I told her (jokingly) that red seeds are usually treated and I wanted this to be an "organic" quiet book. Of course, she sighed loudly and said, "Mom, you are so picky!"
I also saw this stack of wood pumpkins in the garage and felt like painting. I am so early for fall! :) I do plan on doing a fall sale, similar to the Christmas sign sale that I had last November.

I also did a little painting on canvas- my first! It was a lot of fun and I definitely see more of these in my crafty future. I can't show the whole thing just yet, but here is a peek...

WIP Wednesday ~ SPRING!

little2Bhand2Band2Bcrocus.jpg

I am so happy that spring is finally here! I needed some sunshine!!!

The flip-flopping spring teaser weather the past few weeks had been pretty disappointing. I was kind of in a mood and I ended up not finishing the girls' Easter dresses. I just didn't feel like it. I will finish them all eventually, but I am not stressing out about it. I have 3 1/2 done and need to do a lot of hand stitching at this point because I am a perfectionist.

I did some other sewing, just because I did feel like it. The spring quiet book is making some progress and I made some other toys for the kids that I will blog about eventually.

Other than that, I have been eating a lot of chocolate, doing some kids crafts, and enjoying the spring weather, when it is nice. We have two adorable, new calves and peeps are coming anytime now. Flowers are popping up, although mine are always a little late for some reason. Softball and soccer are starting up. There are a lot of new things going on here.

WIP Wednesday ~ Getting Ready for Easter

sewing2Bsafety2Bglasses.jpg

Besides one for my nephew, I finished up all of my Easter basket orders last week and it was a big relief to be done so early! I will share pics of all of those later this week.

We had a spell of nice weather, so I spent some time in the sunroom cutting out one of the girls' Easter dresses. I usually don't start them until a week before Easter, so this was highly unusual for me!

This is the start of the next page of the spring quiet book I am making. I actually finished the page since I took this picture, so I will keep showing the quiet book progress on my facebook page.
If you follow my facebook page, I shared this scary story the other day!

My biggest fear while sewing actually happened yesterday. I was trying to hem jeans and forgot to change from my old, dull, standard needle to a denim needle. That side seam was just too much. The needle shattered and a piece hit me in the eye! It scared me more than it hurt. We have an awesome eye doctor who saw me right away! He got everything checked out and flushed out just in case. The needle just left a scratch, didn't stick in the eye, and didn't hit the center, so I am very fortunate! When picking up my antibiotic drops I also got some new safety glasses and denim needles so that I could finish the hem.

I am very thankful that everything worked out OK! After hemming those jeans later, since I had a fresh denim needle in the machine, I did some mending on my daughter's jeans. They turned out great and I plan on blogging about them later, too.

I really need to get moving on those Easter dresses, but I also want to start a million other projects. It is hard to stay focused! 11 days to go! Would anyone like to take a guess at my "theme" this year?

WIP Wednesday ~ Bring on Spring!

paper2Bchandeleir.jpg

OK. I am slacking on the blog posts again. Yes, I have all of these awesome projects here and I am only giving little teasers about them. One of these days I will catch up enough to start blogging about them for real.

From last week...
~No, still no pics of those doll quilts. I am not sure if our wood glue is any good- it might have frozen- so the doll bunk beds still need repaired.
~I need to scan the bear pattern and edit more pictures to finish that post. I just didn't get around to it yet.
~I did finish the crochet cow hat, but the blue button eyes looked super creepy! I bought new ones that are brown, but my kids ran off with them. I have only relocated one so far.
~My organizing spree brought on by 40 Bags in 40 Days has continued. In fact, I broke open a bag of m&m's on Friday and was able to fill the back of my car with donations by purging through my kitchen and reorganizing. Maybe I will do a post on my organizing efforts, too. Ha! Who am I kidding?

So, what else has been going on? Glad you asked.

I attended a baby shower and whipped up one of my flannel rag edge baby blankets. (Tutorial available HERE.)

If you look REALLY close, you can see the variegated thread that I used around the edges. It matched perfectly! I still had a full bobbin left from THIS quilt so it was a win-win.
I am starting to get ready for Easter! No, I haven't started the girls' dresses yet and I don't even know what I am going to do for those yet.
However, I did start something I hope to put in my 2yo's Easter basket. It is going to be a spring themed quiet book to coordinate with her winter book. This is all that I have done so far. I bet you can guess what the next page will be!
I am also working on some baskets for a few customers who ordered in the past and have expanded their families, hence they need a matching basket for the new baby. I use textbooks and those dumb hardcover Cabelas catalogs my husband thinks are collectible to flatten the bottoms as they dry.

As you can see, the kids like to play while I am weaving.

Speaking of kids, the girls and I made a list of decorating ideas for their playhouse (another thing I haven't blogged about) and started one of the projects. Any guesses as to what this will be?

WIP Wednesday ~ Productive Week

bobbin2Bholder.jpg

I thought I would do another WIP Wednesday post to share what I have been doing around here lately.  I may not have blog posts up to prove it, but I have been super productive!

I finished up 2 out of 3 doll quilts, but did not get any pictures of them yet. Those sampler ones took so long that they deserve a full blog post. :) Plus, there is a piece on the doll bunk bed that needs fixed and nagging has not worked thus far. I may have to do it myself.

I made two stuffed bears from outgrown baby clothes (that was the sneak peek at the end last time!) and even a little blanket for one bear. I plan on posting the pattern I made for those, but I didn't get it perfected yet. I might even do another one just to test it out.

I started a crochet cow hat! It is almost done. I made one of those last year while I was on a blogging hiatus, so I never posted about it. Maybe I will show those pics when I get this one done, too. The first one is better because it is a brown cow. :)

Oh, and I am trying to do the 40 bags in 40 days challenge to declutter my house. Yesterday's task was my embroidery floss. It was all over the place, so my sewing table is much cleaner and the floss is super organized! I only got a sandwich bag worth to throw out, but I am counting it. :)

Speaking of organizing sewing stuff, I got this bobbin tower on clearance at Michaels a few weeks ago and it is awesome! I love being able to just reach up and grab the bobbin I need and the threads aren't hanging all over the place. I highly recommend it!

So, that is a little peek at what I have been working on this week. I am linking up with Silly Mama Quilts.

WIP Wednesday ~ Doll Quilts

bear2Bsneak2Bpeek.jpg

I have a lot of sewing projects going on right now.

A few weeks ago, I did my first ever free motion quilting! Now, don't laugh...

For a first time I don't think it is too bad. I still need to add the binding to this scrappy doll quilt.
After my practice round, I quilted two more doll quilts that I am making for my daughter. These sampler blocks took for. ev. er. so I didn't want to mess the quilts up. I definitely got better at FMQ as I went. I still need to finish these bindings, too!
I am also working on a free pattern for an 18" doll version of the ruffle apron I shared last week. I just need to find the pattern and scan it... I misplaced it. That happens a lot around here.
Finally, a friend of mine had a special request and I just finished it last night. I need to take better finished pictures, but here is a peek of the work in progress...

Any guesses as to what it is? And, more importantly, what it is made of?
