Football Beanie Pattern

For Christmas gifts, I made four of these crocheted football beanies.  They were gifts, and my only boy isn’t so little, so I don’t have any great pics of cute little boys modeling them.  They were pretty easy and I thought that I would share the pattern since I made it up as I went along.  I made it in several different sizes so I will give the directions for 0-6, 6-12, and 12-24 months.…

All-American Dress Tutorial

Just for fun, I decided to make dresses for all four of my girls for Independence Day.  I designed this high waisted halter style and it was sooooo easy to make! Really!! OK… here goes a little tutorial. I make my bodice patterns by tracing shirts that already fit the child well and adding seam allowances.  For this one, I also made a V-neck and a high waist- only about 3/4″ below the armpit.  Cut two…

Puffy Petal Flower Tutorial

This week I made something special for my baby girl!  I am sharing the full tutorial over at Fireflies and Jellybeans next week, but here is a little sneak peek… I made some fabric flowers with five petals to match the fabric and embellish her outfit a little bit.  I have made fabric flowers before, but after playing around for a few minutes, this just seemed like an easier way to do it. Cut a…

Vintage and Lace Nightgown

Next to nothing in the way of PJs or nightgowns survived the first two girls to be passed down to my 3yo. Nightgowns are, in my opinion, way too much $ for what they are to buy them in stores. I made it from some great giveaway prizes, so it cost me nothing but a little bit of thread, elastic, and time. Sweet!  There is that picture smile again. I whipped this one up in about a…

Halley’s Plan B Dress

Halley’s dress was not what I intended to make.  It was supposed to have a yoke across the neck and ties on one side, but I just could not get it to lay flat, so I ended up ripping it apart and going to Plan B!  It still has the big bow on one shoulder like she wanted, so it works.  I also found a way to incorporate some extra white into the dress so…

Isabelle’s Bubble Dress Tutorial

As promised, I am showing you all how I made Isabelle’s Easter dress.  I talked her into a bubble dress, but she chose the wide, high bodice style with a highish waist and wide sash part herself. And she picked the buttons out, too.  (Yes, it is missing one- I forgot the buttons when I used Mom’s machine to make the holes and didn’t listen to her when she said she thought the pack only had three buttons. …

Little Miss Muffet (from an old Tshirt) Tutorial

Kindergarten had a nursery rhyme program for their friends and family.  My daughter was assigned to Little Miss Muffet.  Cute, right?  Oh, and costumes and props were welcomed.  Also, I procrastinate. So, at the last minute, I threw together a little costume made from an old Tshirt.  I constructed the dorky-looking hat bonnet and a half apron and had her wear it over the jumper I made her big sister last year that she had…

Backstitching Embroidery Tutorial

About a year and a half ago, I figured out how to do hand embroidery and I have been selling “framed stitcheries” in my etsy shop.  A friend of mine asked me to teach her, so I snapped some pictures of a piece I am working on that will look the the one above when I am all done.  (If you find that my pictures are not phenomenal, I am blaming most of it on…

Car Roll Tutorial

In my attempt to be the coolest aunt ever (I have 22 nieces and nephews so far!), I made this cute little car roll. It is made from some fabric I had on hand (it’s hard to find non-girly stuff in this family!) and some size 4T jeans that were headed for the garbage. I was inspired by THIS tutorial, but I wanted to do a few things differently:a) I don’t have duck cloth and…

Painted Plastic Easter Eggs Tutorial

I get these crazy ideas in my head and I just have to try them. This time I thought, what about painting plastic Easter eggs? I wasn’t entirely sure that it would work and that the paint would stick to the plastic, but I gave it a shot anyway. I was pleasantly surprised that it DID work and that the texture was very nice- much more like real eggs. So of course I made a…
