Sweet Caroline

My great-grandmother, Caroline, was Bohemian; so “boho” means a little something different to me because I think of her.  I remember her fierce hugs and the stories of her spunk and determination. Widowed, with three young children, she moved from the city to rural PA and married a bachelor farmer.  I have always thought she was brave, and I wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t taken a chance. Characteristic of her generation, she was very resourceful.…

Sweet Summer Halter Top Tutorial

Last summer I did a guest post for Fireflies and Jellybeans, so I thought it would be nice to bring it home and repost it over here on my blog, too.  Looking at these pictures of little Gracie, who just turned two the other day, makes me a little bit sappy. Oh, I am going to be a mess with this last baby, aren’t I? *sniff, sniff* OK, back to the tutorial.  Here you go……

Regular to Maternity T-Shirt Refashion Tutorial

Please excuse the photographer’s finger in the top corner there. 🙂 Usually I do not sew many things for myself and I am not usually all that picky when it comes to clothing. BUT, I saw these T-shirts on sale at Target in CUTE colors and I just really, really wanted them! So I splurged. On myself.  That almost NEVER happens!  Here is how I mentally justified it: Maternity T-shirts are way more expensive (I…

Football Beanie Pattern

For Christmas gifts, I made four of these crocheted football beanies.  They were gifts, and my only boy isn’t so little, so I don’t have any great pics of cute little boys modeling them.  They were pretty easy and I thought that I would share the pattern since I made it up as I went along.  I made it in several different sizes so I will give the directions for 0-6, 6-12, and 12-24 months.…

Hello Kitty Ears

I am back-tracking a little bit here, since I finally got all of my Christmas pictures off of the camera card. 🙂 Right before Christmas, we celebrated Isabelle’s 7th birthday and she wanted Hello Kitty again.  Just for fun, I made a dozen or so of these Hello Kitty ear headbands. They were super easy and cute! I got the idea on Pinterest and you can see more Hello Kitty party cuteness HERE. I got…

Little Star Quilt

As I was stitching on the last little bit of the binding, I realized that I pieced this quilt 8 years ago!  WOW!  It isn’t even a large quilt- only about 22 inches on each side.  Talk about procrastination!!! I like the soft sage green and tan fabrics, but there is not much contrast between these colors.  The piecing is not perfect- I have definitely come a long way in the last 8 years! I…

Backstitching Embroidery Tutorial

About a year and a half ago, I figured out how to do hand embroidery and I have been selling “framed stitcheries” in my etsy shop.  A friend of mine asked me to teach her, so I snapped some pictures of a piece I am working on that will look the the one above when I am all done.  (If you find that my pictures are not phenomenal, I am blaming most of it on…

Chicken and Waffles

Chicken and waffles is a very common meal around these parts. I can remember the first time I met someone who was not a “local” and had never had chicken and waffles. I was shocked and horrified! I thought everyone ate chicken and waffles. It is really just good, homemade waffles topped with cooked chicken and gravy. You can figure out how to make the cooked chicken and gravy on your own, but here is my…

Painted Plastic Easter Eggs Tutorial

I get these crazy ideas in my head and I just have to try them. This time I thought, what about painting plastic Easter eggs? I wasn’t entirely sure that it would work and that the paint would stick to the plastic, but I gave it a shot anyway. I was pleasantly surprised that it DID work and that the texture was very nice- much more like real eggs. So of course I made a…

Quilt Backgrounds?

Many people claim that the key to etsy success is fabulous pictures. “They” also say that you need to have fluidity between the pictures in your shop. So, I am really conscious of my shop pictures- I am not that concerned about sales, but it makes me smile to open up my shop page and think “Oh, that looks nice!” I am blessed to have a large sunroom which provides beautiful natural lighting for my…
