A Little Fall Decorating

I seem to make all of these crafty things, but I never really do much to decorate my own house. Part of it is that I feel like it is a constant battle to get the kids to clean. It is hard to decorate a mess! Some of the struggle is with my grander ideas that never happen- our lighting is terrible and there is ugly paneling everywhere! I am also really indecisive and can’t…

Rustic Chicken Wire Photo Display

I think my 17yo son inherited some of my crafty genes. When I took him school shopping he asked to go to craft stores to get inspiration for his girlfriend’s birthday gift. I didn’t mind. šŸ˜‰ They are renovating her bedroom, so he wanted to make something for her new room. He combined inspiration from a few different pieces that we saw, made a small tray for a practice run, then built the final product.…

July 4th Home Decor

I do seasonal decorating around here. I am sort of undecided about home decor ideas- most things I really want to do require major renovations and a large budget. Instead, I do some smaller things to try to brighten things up around here. Seasonal decor fits in well with my “undecided look.” I leave my patriotic decor up from late May to early September; it covers Memorial Day to July 4th. Then comes fall, which seems too…

Scrapbook Paper Picture Frame Tutorial

April is generally the craft month for our MOPS group. We wanted to come up with something that every mom could use… picture frames! At the March meeting we set up a photo booth with two background choices: an aqua sheet thumbtacked to the divider with THIS pink and yellow bunting or a navy sheet thumbtacked to the divider with some yellow stars that are part of our “Starry Eyed” meeting decor. They were simple,…

LOVE sign

I painted a sign last fall, but I didn’t like it. Not everything that I make is beautiful and blog-worthy. Some things are kind of a flop, but I am usually stubborn enough to keep on trying. (There is your crafting tip for the day: Be stubborn sometimes.) So, because I felt like it, I painted over the whole thing in red and made a giant LOVE sign for Valentine’s Day. It was actually really…

Rustic Winter Tree

IĀ decorate a pencil tree in my dining room for Christmas. This year when we started to put it away, my daughter and I decided to move it to a dark, awkward corner in our living room. Why not leave it up for the rest of the winter? I made a grapevine garland to wrap around it last year, so I left that on and continued with the rustic, winter theme. I already blogged about the…

Crochet Snowflakes

I procrastinate. Especially with my craft projects. If it doesn’t have a deadline, who knows when it will be finished? I started crocheting snowflakes a really long time ago. It was at least 10 years, but some of them could be older. I don’t know what is wrong with me, but all of these unfinished projects make me feel like a failure. That is not at all what crafting is supposed to be like. I…

DIY Rustic Twine Balls

I really didn’t think these were going to work! On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day the girls and I had a “craft day” on their day off of school. We occasionally have themed days like this with special projects. (They have requested a baking day next time!) We had a craft day over Christmas break and made mason jar snow scenes, baked pine cones, and painted ornaments. This time, we worked on winter decor for…
