The Poofy Dress

So, it is November and I still have not finished blogging about the girls’ Easter dresses. The thing about the navy and white theme this year is that they are so versatile. It just looks classy for any season. This dress turned out so beautiful and – even if the pictures don’t show it by her refusal to smile – she loves it! I made a sparkly satin bodice (remnant from Joann’s) using The Party…

Lace Overlay High Low Dress

I should be getting ready for Halloween, but I am procrastinating. Instead, I am backtracking and blogging about another Easter dress. This was one of the dresses that was completely dictated by my daughter’s preferences. It also ended up costing me nothing to make! So, we both won. The navy lining, made from another layer of my old bridesmaid dress, stops above her knees and the high-low lace overlay is much longer. It is a…

Lace Top Box Dress Tutorial

If you “like” my facebook page, you would have seen that I did, in fact, make my girls Easter dresses this year. Yes, I know that was soooo 4 months ago. They can be made in any cotton…

Independence Day Dresses

I felt like making dresses for the girls again this year. Don’t be too impressed, though. These were super easy! I just whipped up some peasant dresses, but shortened the length and sleeves a bit. For the youngest daughter, I also decreased the width. (See my fast peasant dress sewing tutorial HERE.) Then, in my quest to use up my patriotic fabric stash (see HERE), I added these big blue and white starry bows. I…

Teen Peasant Dress Pattern and Tutorial

This year, Project Yesu was looking for some dresses for the older girls of ages 12-16. I challenged myself to create a variation of the peasant dresses we normally make that would meet some of the unique challenges of making larger sizes. It is longer, but has enough width at the bottom to allow for easy movement. I also lined the top to allow for more modesty. The elastic waistband is another nice feature that…

Peasant Dress Quick Sewing Tutorial

I know there are peasant dress tutorials galore, but I am going to show you how to make these dresses using a few tips and tricks we have picked up over the past few years while making hundreds of these dresses for groups like Project Yesu. I already covered the “system” we use for cutting them out quickly and efficiently. Today I am showing you how to sew them together. I mentioned yesterday that we will…
